Health + the Tweed Valley Hospital

Health

The Northern Rivers has just built a major new hospital, and whether the health system delivers on it is a standing question for the whole region. The new Tweed Valley Hospital at Cudgen opened in 2024; Lismore Base Hospital anchors the south; and the Northern NSW Local Health District runs the services across both. We track them through Health Infrastructure's project pages, the LHD's own news and organisation record, and the state's health releases.

The coverage is on the delivery: what a project actually included, what has opened, what the milestones and the money are, and how services on the ground compare with what was promised. People appear through their public roles; we do not report an identifiable patient's private circumstances.

Health + the Tweed Valley Hospital

The $723 million question the Tweed Valley Hospital answered was not beds, it was travel: cancer and cardiac care that used to mean leaving the region

The $723.3 million hospital at Cudgen added more than 190 beds and 12 theatres, but the number that says most is a different one: on the government’s figures it reduces the need for 5,000 patients a year to travel outside the region, thanks to new radiotherapy and interventional cardiology services.
